Dry, gritty or burning eyes

A proper look at why, and treatment that fits you. Private, optometrist-led, Canary Wharf.

What dry eye can feel like

Dry eye doesn't always feel dry. Clients describe:

  • grittiness, as if there is sand in the eye
  • burning or stinging, especially later in the day
  • watering for no clear reason
  • sore, puffy or crusty eyelids
  • vision that blurs and clears when you blink
  • eyes that feel worse on flights or in air-conditioned rooms

Why it happens

The most common cause is meibomian gland dysfunction: the tiny oil glands along your eyelids become blocked, so your tears evaporate too quickly. Screens, contact lenses, air conditioning, hormones and some medications can all make it worse. Drops alone often don't help much, because they don't address the glands.

What happens at your Visual Reset

  • Before your visit, a short questionnaire about your symptoms, screen use and health.
  • Assessment of your tear film, eye surface and eyelids, with imaging of your glands where appropriate, so you can see them for yourself.
  • Treatment chosen for your findings, which may include gland expression, BlephEx® lid cleaning and one session of LM™ Low-Level Light Therapy.
  • Time to relax, with gentle periorbital techniques and guided breathing while the treatment works.
  • A take-home care kit and a home routine.

£450, 60 minutes. Some people find one session is all they need. Others benefit from further LLLT sessions (£250 each), and I will tell you honestly which applies to you.
